I know chrome has had a flag to enable something like that for years but I don’t think it ever materialized. If I were to guess it’s probably because it’s hard to do that in a way that doesn’t break things in the “other direction” or is slower than a true dark mode made by the website author
I think the chrome flag is still there just like Firefox, it just signals to the site to use a dark theme if it has one (which Cohost does, making non-post feed space black instead of beige. not at all perfect, but.)
Nah I remember Chrome having an actual invert color thing à la Dark Reader but maybe they removed it
