Social murder is a deeply unappreciated concept in our society, and I never stop thinking about it, nor about how we construct tidy abstractions to avoid ever engaging with it.
people get really shitty with me and assume my views are formed by laziness instead of "decades exposed to medical genocide" and i understand that they were very likely some of the people who felt reassured when the government said only the sick and old would die. "be a booster for the democrats forever" isnt a strategic goal, it is ultimately complicity. if you can subvert local politics in a way that fulfills your actual goals, all is fair in love and class war, but if you Believe in either Democracy or America, you are simply being ruled. it is deeply embarrassing.
i have recently resolved to tell people who pull the "voting is how you pick your enemy" on me that if they insist i vote, i will vote for whichever politicians are the most obvious enemies to the most people since that fulfills my goals.
nobody cared when i spent years unable to vote because i was effectively homeless and was house hopping too much to prove residence easily. they simply assumed i was a lazy person who was required to agree with them and do as they say. this is democracy? what a fucking joke
edited to add: i am also literally a person who has been excluded from voting because polling places were inaccessible or transport was not available or my health failed me and i was busy trying not to die during politics season and so on. i have watched the system chug along without me, so what is the point? i am not responsible for recruiting myself to whatever causes you have or required to agree with your assessment of any given situation or solution.
It's hard to avoid recognizing that the main difference between when Ds and Rs are in power seems to be that liberals at least pretend to care about shit when Rs are in power. Certainly, the onus needs to be on the people claiming "voting is harm reduction!" whatever to explain why anyone should believe it at this point. Or, along the same lines, people insisting that We Have To Vote, why is it not fair to insist in turn that they Have To Join A Militant Revolutionary Organization?
