when people contract "all purpose flour" to "ap flour" i just read it as "armor piercing flour" now

the united states banned the use of ap flour in 1986, but only in small items such as rolls, bagels, and buns. however, this had little impact, as ap flour is unpopular in this style of baked good due to its low effectiveness. most bakers prefer bread flour for rolls and bagels, which due to its higher gluten content is also known as high protein or hp flour

most types of bread are also available made with whole grain flour, which due to including the hard bran jacket of the grain may be called full meal jacket or fmj. however, fmj is not a complete substitute for hp as it results in less expansion
