  • Oh sweet, it runs first try every time now
  • ...okay the cursor is super jank unless I lock it to the window
  • ...oh fuck my mouse's side buttons aren't working correctly
    • They're mapped to the numpad, and it's still recognising that much...sorta...except that it's handling it as though Num Lock is off, so I can't use anything on my alt hotbar except the one button that's mapped to ' because I ran out of other keys
  • Update: oh fuck it's not handling my actual numpad correctly either, so I can't use that bar at all

Turns out, the problem was trying to use Wayland. As much as I'd like to go all-in on it, support is still a bit lacking. I've switched to the other "unofficial" build (unofficial in quotes because it "may as well be official") based on the Staging branch of Wine, and not only are the above problems not present, but I have hope that it still starts up every time, and also the Compose key works, which is something I've been missing from playing in Windows.

edit: I had turned off the XMODIFIERS tweak, which, while that allows the Compose key to work...causes other input issues so I had to turn that back on. ope. Regardless, a net gain.

I feel like I've asked you this before but what are the benefits for you personally moving to wayland?

Not to make that sound pointed, I'm a noted stick in the mud that waits as long as possible to jump ship lol. Because of that, I've not really looked into it much now that I've got working vsync. That's the only thing I recall, it was supposed to fix vsync.

Dunno if I would call it moving to Wayland per se. Aside from a driver configuration issue when I originally set up Garuda, I've pretty well stuck to it as long as I could X3

But for the time that I was using X11 to start with, I did find it to not be as responsive as Wayland is. Ultimately, each of them have different problems, IMO. However, things seem to generally be at least meandering toward Wayland.

I will admit, though, I tend to go with the new thing 'cause it's the new thing. Which...no idea if that's good or not, but maybe it's saying something that I'm having to reboot into Windows to stream 🤷
