yo i think i know why aimkid uses a fucking PS3 CONTROLLER to animate things

so if you were kicking around doing stuff in flipnote studio on the dsi, you may be familiar with a bunch of the quirks that animating on that had. there were only 2 layers, only 4 colors (white, black, red, blue) but could only use 3 at a time, but theres a bunch of other quirks in there

FOR EXAMPLE, you may know that the go-to "speed" for flipnotes was 6. thats right. speed. the framerate of teh animations were arbitrary speed values, and we all used speed 6 cause that was the easiest to animate without spending too fucking long drawing frames. i've seen ppl use speed 5 to animate stuff but it was pretty much all speed 6. only ppl doing crack used 7 or 8.

now the thing is, speed 6 was 12 FPS!!!!! WE ALL ANIMATED AT 12FPS!!! IT SURE AS HELL DIDNT FEEL LIKE THAT!!! and no WONDER we animated at 12fps because speed 7 and 8 were 20fps and 30fps respectively. i dont think any of us idiots were smart enough to know the concept of "animating on 2s or 3s" where you only animate every 2 frames or 3 frames for slower smaller movements. this saves a lot of time when animating, and as you may know, animating fucking suuuuuuuuuucks. its a very noticeable quirk without you even KNOWING thats whats happening! those choppy frames makes animations feel authentic!

BUT WE DIDNT KNOW THAT! we all animated at speed 6 and drew every single frame in the animation bc we thought thats what you had to do. like i said i have seen ppl animate at speed 5, and that shit is 6fps apparently, so it was understandably less good feeling than speed 6.

now i think aimkid animated at 12fps at some point, which some people may be confised about, but i know aimkid uses flipnote. they have posted some funny little flipnores on thei twitter before. that random one where a guy got sucked into a tornado? PROBABLY A FLIPNOTE. this means aimkid is familiar with the workflow of how to make a flipnote.

now why does aimkid use a ps3 controller? well flipnotes could only flip the page back and forth with the dpad on the dsi. since i was talking about this framerate shit with my friends i was thinking abt how i wanted to set up a lil animation workflow for myself bc i wanted to do a 6fps animation. i need to get my shitty drawing tablet out, and i also had the idea to use my ps4 controller to flip the pages with the dpadHEY WAIT AIMKID DOES THAT

had to compose this into a coherent thought bc i like flipnote studio and wanted to share some of these quirks to the people and i also think aimkid is super awesome :P

this kind of reminded me how i plugged in a controller to play celeste using a keyboard (WASD) with my left hand and a controller with my right hand because the trigger button felt most natural for gripping

totally fair! now that reminds me of how some people play fps with mouse + controller. i tried it out myself with minecraft years ago and its honestly kinda cool! you get to have precision mouse aim combined with analog movement input with the left side of the controller

virtually the inverse, i suppose!
the movements in celeste are quantized to ←↙↓↘→↗↑↖, so WASD made sense to me there, but a joystick would allow for a lot in a game like minecraft
