I really can't get enough of good game waterfalls :D
That's how I felt about that waterfall when I got to it, too! Definitely shows just how far Square's pixel artistry had advanced from FF4 and 5 by the time they got to this. (I'd even go so far as to say I like the character sprites far better than the actual Toriyama art, too, but that's a different matter altogether ahaha.)
Yes, it really is incredible! Their early work was good, but very "flat". This is on another level entirely :D
I love palette switching waterfalls so much, I find the way they get it feeling believable even though there is no actual pixel animation so impressive
Ahhh! I played Chrono Trigger for the first time just last year. It was one of those rare occasions when something legendary actually lives up to its reputation.
This is my first time in over twenty years, so it may as well be my first! I didn't get on with it back then - I can remember why - but yeah, I can see the magic this time around!
I say I played it for the first time last year. I'd actually tried to play it a couple of times previously but I found the opening fair scene intensely boring, or at least a very unengaging way to start out the game, so I never got past the first 10 minutes.
This time round I forced my way through it and ended up enjoying the game a lot, but that fair is (in my opinion) just a poor way to begin. Why open on the dullest event in the game?!
Funnily enough I'm fine with the intro, it's the final battle that bores me to tears! XD
Oh yes, I wasn't a huge fan of the final battle either. I'd forgotten that. It was a bit of a chore.
