I am internet. Hear me whine.

Mostly just repeats of past exploits from across the wider Cyberverse™. Chase me elsewhere (see link above) for the freshest, goodest stuff.

Started playing Ace Combat 3 (The fan-translation, of course, not the hyper-neutered single-disk official English release that's missing half the content. I'm not a monster) and PS1-era Namco at the height of their powers have a remarkable habit of striking me speechless.

Never before has a dystopian corporate war been such a vibe.

Beat Ending C (the "All UPEO" route). Not really sure how I feel about the gameplay, per-se (It didn't really feel like enemies were even fighting back until the final quarter of the missions?) but the graphics and presentation are incredibly stylish for the PS1.

As I mentioned above, Namco were at the height of their powers with the hardware at this point (see also: R4!) and they just spend the whole game flexing. Even when I was bored or annoyed (Fuck "Bug Hunt", terrible mission), the storytelling kept me going. Which is unusual for me...

Wish I had more time to check out the other routes, but the book-club-kinda thing this is part of has like a day left on this game and I'm gonna be busy for most of that day, so alas. I'll have to come back to it later...

as someone who's enjoyed later AC releases, which PS1 AC do I start with? Air Combat seems cute but kinda terrible and not much of a real story anyway, so I'm fairly sure it's not that one, but I've been slightly paralyzed wondering which one to try next

I spent last year playing through every AC game (except Assault Horizon) for the first time and I don't think the AI gets "aggressive" until AC6/ACZero. Even on Hard difficulty they're just kind of there until it gets somewhat hard in the final couple of missions. The time limit or gimmick missions tend to be the worst enemies. Then there's AC7 where it's just deranged the further you get into it.
