I have always wanted to see a game made with 100% native system UI widgets.
Aurora 4X is kind of like this. IIRC its earlier versions were made in VB6, and newer ones use C# and WinForms.
Also, it's kind of a fringe example, but check out ШП: https://store.steampowered.com/app/727640/__ShP/
I unironically love the brief era of PC games that used native Windows widgets as their UI kit
I was tempted to leap to this game's defense and then I remembered that when I played it on SNES as a kid I spent most of my time in the easter egg mode that just plays the original Pitfall.
I loved playing this game as a kid, though I never got past the Lost City of Copan. The bosses were something else.
It's pretty damn hard to get running on modern Windows, though.
Fun fact, this game runs perfectly in Wine EXCEPT that it requires a real CDROM drive to detect the CD and play background music and will absolutely not let you play with an emulated drive. (I have a legit copy, I just don't want the CD to explode due to age and the garbage drive in my desktop.)
Yep, that was the the issue I remember from trying to run on windows in the past.
okay but like, suikoden for windows is still extremely funny and good to look at
