Just a small update to my personal website today:

  • Removed my twitter since I no longer use it
  • Added an "Articles Section" which features a couple of my recent posts from here including my impressions of the Quake II remaster and why I miss video stores.

I'll make more substantial updates to the site in the future. And yes it works on old operating system. I'm using Internet Explorer 5 in the screenshot.

Remember those neat Armored Core demos from the early PS2 days? Big mecha launching missiles and bullets everywhere as they cause chaos - dismembering each other

Despite being a huge mech fan - having played Armored Core: Last Raven (PSP), Armored Core; Arena (PSP), AC1 (PS1) and AC4 / AC4A - I never got to play AC2 and it’s sequel.

I loaded up AC2 and Another Age onto my Steam Deck and have been playing the opening missions. After dying to the tutorial 3 times I figured it’d be clear sailing at least for the first couple missions - NOPE. You will learn to boost and dodge with these clunky controls and you will like it!

BRB exploding over and over and over again!

Recently picked up the Quake II remaster that dropped on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch recently. I remember playing Quake II a lot on the Pentium 1 computers back in High School. From what I remember we mostly played death match so I don’t think I got the chance to play through the majority of the campaign.

The days of circle strafing and moving around enemies so they lose line of sight on you have seen a bit of a revival due to the rise of “boomer shooters”.

Not surprising that an updated port of a game from 1998 runs at a crisp 60 fps even on the Switch. For $10 you get the original PC Quake 2 campaign - the two official expansion packs: The Recokoning and Ground Zero. Also included is a brand new campaign made by Machine Games - rumoured developers of a Quake Reboot and a port of the single player and multiplayer from the Nintendo 64.

There is a lot of content to chew through for $10 if you enjoy older shooters. I’ve been playing through parts of the original campaign and the super shotgun is absolutely broken, most enemies just melt :p
