a rare dev post here, but the gif was small enough this time


context here, though maybe not the most interesting;

i had a little context change in an older build when you entered the hotsprings where suu and momiji would switch to bath versions of themselves. however, this was done by if the room loading was 'is_hotspring=true' (basically) it would make the characters overwrite some of the states with the alternate attributes and animations. however there was weirdness to this, not to mention that it was a destructive change and was difficult to set up a toggle back. which was mostly fine for the case of alternate room behaviour

so today, to take a break for the enemy cpu logic stuff that's been giving me trouble i thought i'd get the bath mode stuff re-added... which ended up being fairly tricky...

first thought was that it would be a sort of 'stance' suu would get locked in to when activated, but there are a lot of 'outs' on states that push her into other states, so it'd be easy to desync from the stance.

next up was making an alternate character/character-preset that would have the different states and animations put together. but partially because of game maker partially because of how i have stuff saved for character data, this meant there were problems with the switch happening where things would desync, multi-apply, etc etc. perhaps the funniest was how some size change was reapplying so when suu switched to bath mode she also grew 30x in size. it also ended up causing hiyoko to multiply each time, which was really funny with the butterfly cloud form.

so the way it works now is it does 1:1 substitution of the sprite animations for the edited states, and then recalculates accessory pin points on the state data when toggled on. i left some space for this to be able to be used for other possible effects later if wanted, so there may be some fun to be had with it.

for now the next step is to make it more formally a mode where it can change which moves are available for suu.
