Perhaps when the AI craze passes (and/or the company goes out of business and bricks all of these in process) it'll be possible to get them second-hand for cheap and run something fun on them - the app has been found to be a fairly normal Android app, so the hardware must be pretty standard.
I'm in the same boat - would love to grab one on ebay for like, $30 to tinker with
