just because that's not how previous online platforms of this size have ended

but we absolutely think that these platforms have hit a point where they no longer have public enthusiasm to drive them forward. everyone knows the platform is oppressive and corporate, even if their belief system doesn't allow them to describe it in those terms. everyone feels the desire for something better.

I'm with you, I've seen this sentiment come up quite a bit from people affected by the 3rd party app updates lately but with the popular time killer sites self-owning themselves into oblivion - "guess I'll be reading more books/comics/etc instead of using your website then" like hell yeah??? as upset as some people might be at the unexpected change to their daily habits, there's really no downside for the user here. as a long lapsed reddit & twitter scroller I wholly recommend it and I genuinely hope it sticks with people
