  • Monty Python makes a pure nonsense sketch about the brand name of a canned meat
  • Computer touchers pick up on it and start using it to refer to junk email
  • Semantic drift changes it to mean 'anything that is assiduously repeated', starting with video game likers talking about 'zergling spam'
  • Eventually, sports pundits are talking about Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray 'spamming the pick and roll' that's right nerds this one is also a sports post, gottem

You're missing the silliest steps. It doesn't begin with Monty Python deciding to make a nonsense sketch about canned meat; it begins with World War II devastating Britain so badly that most people have nothing to eat but this crappy canned meat, giving Monty Python something to riff on thirty years later.
