genuinely worried what epic & songtradr's gutting of the soul of bandcamp will do for the future of the platform - and what that could mean for my future as a musician
its organic, artist-first nature meant immediate and meaningful support, connecting me to those with genuine appreciation. each connection felt purposeful, unlike what algorithmic playlists pretend to offer
without bandcamp, i stood no chance. and soon it may all be gone on the greedy whims of the uncaring machine
At this point, I hope an alternative is formed. Something independent with the same business model as bandcamp where it's artist and community first. It's clear songtradr doesn't care about what bandcamp stands for and only cares about money.
Until then, I'll keep purchasing music from bandcamp as long as artists are being supported. But I fear it's only a matter of time before they fuck that up too. It's a terrible seeing something you love be torn apart due to greed.
