I've seen zero people talk about Immortals of Aveum and that's a straight-down-the-middle unremarkable but alright game if I've ever seen one. Zero curves here, the kind of ball that gets a 7-10 split because it's just going dead on. I played it an hour ago and still had to look up the name.

I had to look it up, it wasn't even in any of the 2023 Games lists I looked before making this post.

I have no idea what it is but I imagine it being like Immortals Fenyx Rising, carrying on the curse of a game with "Immortals" in its names that apes from other major titles and flops massively.

You're pretty much right on the money. Fenyx Rising at least wore the fact that it was a generic as hell ubisoft sandbox on its sleeve and was genuinely pretty clever with its dynamic cutscenes that were conditional on which quests you had and hadn't done. Immortals of Aveum feels almost like a ... Borderlands Soulslike? Weird FPS whose writing is quip-laden dross but whose worldbuilding is surprisingly deep and inventive, with boilerplate gunplay and dogshit first-person platforming. What I thought of most often was Asterigos because that had the same lurching inconsistency in its quality and level of ambition.
