If you do the Aquarius expedition, the hop from 1st Redezvous to 2nd, I've set up a base where:

  • you can get the 50u deep milestone
  • you can get the fish in the deeps milestone
  • there is a rare spawn which is the 100kg+ aquatic creature milestone (may need to jump on land and back in the water a couple times to roll the dice)
  • possibly, can't verify reproducibility: I found an S-Class snail while fishing, which gets the Legendary milestone.

It's on the southern end of the planet shown.

now with more landing pads

it's a rush job

I might build it out more to have some biodomes for plants because why not.

but I already spent too much time grinding on it honestly. at least my hardcore save will inherit the work.

there's a short-range teleporter. or you can dive to the bottom. what you can't do is climb down, because the stairs are out.

honestly, one of my more well developed bases.

Upon completion of the expedition, I can say that there's no particular benefit to my base. The finding of four milestones in one spot was largely luck -- even with the special legendary bait, I only ever caught one legendary. Without any bait. I think it's just dice. If you just roll through the expedition jumps you'll be fine, with maybe some stops off to particular planets along the way that aren't the rendezvous points for particular climates.

You'll also be required to make some sort of deep-water base of your own for the expedition.

The legendary bait is great for the giant fish milestone, though. So it was worth grinding out parts to craft more, but probably not necessary to setup a farm base for it.

Disappointed the aquarium doesn't let you show off any of your catches. You can either release, sell, or eat. There is no pet fish.

Anymew, if you do find and visit my base, and don't have the achievement yet, the trick is you have to interact with the base computer to count as "visiting" another person's base.

in reply to @KylieNeko's post:

I mostly do just the expeditions now. Though I've never tried setting up a community base on an expedition before. Partially because of all the cheaty bases, but mostly because I've never gotten 4 milestones cleared in one planet before.

Fortunately I did finish the Big Objective so all this free stuff my hardcore save inherits doesn't give me any advantages.

I like NMS generally but there's some flaws in the building system that keep me from being interested in building anything really complex. The inability of lighting to 1. function or 2. throw enough light when it does in custom build areas is just soul-crushing. Unless you wanted to make a fantasy disreputable tavern, I guess.
