New survey! In the past we've talked about card games and visual novels. It's been a blast seeing everyone's recommendations in the comments section.
So here's a new informal survey for you all: what are some indie games that you love that you feel like most people don't talk about? What indie games do you wish got more attention than they do?
Many of us have heard of the Stardews and Hades of the world. Give a shout-out to a lesser-known gem, I'd love to check them out.
I've been thinking about replaying it again recently to refresh my memory on it, but I remember being really incensed that I bought Shootout on Cash Island on a whim for a miniscule $0.69.
It's not necessarily a revolutionary game or anything like that, but it was clearly made by people (or a person) who knew what they were doing and executed on their idea well. It's a platformer, and if I remember right, you can bop enemies on the head like Mario, but obviously the main thing here is that you can pick up and shoot guns. What I remember really, really impressing me was just how tight and natural the level design was. They nailed Nintendo's "silent tutorial" method of level design while also using it to play with your expectations.
It's the sort of game that would have really lit up the Xbox Live Arcade charts in 2009. But since it released as part of Steam's endless firehose of indie games, almost nobody knows about it. It's worth a lot more than the $0.69 sale price I paid for it, and it's worth a lot more than the $1.99 its currently listed at.
