so i'm making a visual novel, reportedly, and i decided to test some stuff today. i am not a coder; this is why i use TyranoBuilder. i am, at best, a somewhat bumbling script kiddie if and when i want to color outside the lines. TyranoBuilder is... Java-based? i think? and there's some HTML and some CSS going on there, both of which i have a vague Neopets/tumblr theme-based understanding of.

i was like. oh there's no way i could simply use markdown plus to make fun text effects and simply copy and paste them into my script. it's got to be more complicated than that, it always is, this is a child's idea of how code works. it's never (hacker voice) i'm in, it's always (hacker voice) i've been on this wiki for hours and i need a drink.

so here is the very small test environment in the TyranoBuilder GUI without any of my bullshit antics.

...and here it is what is happening in it after bringing in some wiggly text.

it's just. dancing there. in the GUI, where i am working. the serious place of work.

now maybe you're wondering... doodlemancy... does it actually work in the ingame dialogue boxes? NO and i can't even be mad. i've achieved the funniest possible result. it's only spring and i've already stored enough comedy for the whole winter

the happy ending: i did figure it out. i just needed the correct tag to embed HTML, make the font the right size and color and stuff, and get it to position in the text box where it belongs.

I HAVE WIGGLED MY WAY TO SUCCESS

Oh woh... I had no idea TyranoBuilder had an interface like that. Seems somewhat neater for first-time VN attempts than Ren'Py's "no, you have to code at least a little." BUT ALSO PFF??? Why does it do that if it doesn't apply in-game too??? Mysterious but also amazing

i have part of that answer: it was not wrapped in the correct tags. i don't know why it displays wiggly in the TyranoBuilder GUI but in the actual game itself HTML needs to be wrapped in TyranoScript tags before it will Do Thing.

i definitely wish i'd had TyranoBuilder when i was starting out with Ren'py lol. the documentation is arguably worse but it's easier to figure out how to fudge things i'm already familiar with (HTML/CSS) and not have to deal with a community that, frankly, hates beginners LOL
