Revisiting Teardown for the expansion campaign and thinking with awe, once again, about how much more work it must be to build a level in that game when you have to model not just the surface of every wall, but also every interior layer and their distinct physical properties

I've learned a bit about construction and materials for environment design reasons, but to be honest, I have no idea what I'd find if I pried up my own floorboards. More wood? Concrete? Insulation?

The ship design there is so fun. I played Hardspace Shipbreaker and was like “oh all the separate modules are interesting. I guess this is a concession to the design and the procedural elements?” but then I watched a video of a real cruise ship being assembled out of prefabbed cubes that snap together and I realized that the construction is actually just real.
