I love my city and I hate my city. I grew up an hour north of here, and lived here all my adult life.
We're infamously an inhospitable city that has managed to price out any kind of working class person under a series of neoliberal policies (including one that allowed Twitter to not pay city taxes for over a decade). But there's always been a hope that if we can just hold out a little longer this tech storm will pass and we'll be able to get back to being the city we've been pretending to be. The nightmare Salesforce tower was hated partially because it's now a permanent scar on our skyline that will remind everyone how fucked the 21st century has been as long as the city stands.
Anchor was one of those SF institutions that made San Francisco a Cool Place at one point. It was a part of our heritage that the tech locusts couldn't devour, the beer you ordered when you were out with friends and didn't want to have to think. What you brought to the park for daydrinking.
We're stuck coasting off of our identity of America's Progressive City despite the fact that we haven't done anything to help anyone in the city without a compsci degree in 20 years and now I won't even have a beer to drink while I try and hang on.
