"Hasbro's toy sales are down so they're trying to wring more money out of D&D"

"why are their toy sales down? did a show with a weird freak burst of popularity among an older fanbase with toy-buying income end a couple years back or some-oooooooh."

there are other factors, but

A) I would argue that a sudden new audience fading away definitely hit their bottom line a good amount and

B) it's much funnier to say this is all Princess Celestia's fault

listen here you little shit, I don't give a damn who you are, if you keep putting the blame on me, Equestria could stand to have a second moon.

okay I was gonna respond to this with a joke about what the DC for Moon Time would be under 5th edition but then it made me go see if there was a MLP secret lair over in Magic

there's two of them

anyway this whole thought process brought to you by me learning there was a planned G4.2 because they wanted to retreat back to FiM, because Hasbro's scared of changing things, which is why Transformers is back on G1 every other year and why D&D now has some sort of Forever Edition

The desperate and fervent hope that because one slice in time has a strong, nostalgic fanbase, they will continue to harvest that fanbase's wallets forever.

I was under the impression that G5 was well-liked by the target audience, though nothing will bring the Friendship is Magic generation's obsession back to Hasbro no matter how much they wish it would.

Also, I thought the first pony thing was a HasCon exclusive so it costs hundreds of dollars to fans now, because it wasn't even released with the Secret Lairs. That sort of money probably would make Hasbro sit up and take notice too...
