We wish you a pleasant stay. Everyone in this city is nice, but they probably don't actually like you. The best coffee is Philz Coffee, but no one has time for that.
Remember to tip your baristas.
Food in downtown ranges from good but overpriced to bad and overpriced, (and it's similarly overpriced everywhere else in the city) but probably better tasting the further out you go. Just remember the locals probably hate you if you come barging into their local corner cafe. At least I probably will hate you. If you actually want reasonable food, go to Oakland.
It takes an hour to get to the other side of town. Let me repeat that: It takes an hour to get to the other side of town. Don't know why you might want to, but say you want to go to the beach and see the Great Highway and sand dunes, IT WILL TAKE YOU AN HOUR TO GET THERE FROM DOWNTOWN
You do not need to Lyft and Uber everywhere, but I mean, live your life. Use that corporate expense account if you have it. The buses are generally pretty safe. Your MUNI pass does not work with BART.
If you want porkbuns, tell everyone to go to Eastern Bakery on Grant Ave. Then go to Grant Place Restaurant on Washington instead, because they're better.
If you want ramen: you don't. No one should have to pay $20 for a bowl of ramen, what the fuck is wrong with this city.
Also, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, and the Planning Commission will be meeting at City Hall on Thursday. 1 p.m. for both. You can play the best game in the city, and that's politics.
And no, I don't work in video games.
Addendum: If you need a cheap quick meal, the food court under Westfield is serviceable, but crowded. If you are depressed and wanting to cry, the Burger King on Powell is depressing enough to set you over the edge.
There is also a good vegetarian place down Market near city hall, a good place to go after watching a city meeting.
