i know this is a very off topic question but: is respawning like, specifically linked with adventurers, or does it happen to other people/monsters too?

ex: some people have the respawning ability, so they'll probably go do the lucrative jobs that might kill you. or that like, the act of adventuring grants you respawns

vs like, everyone respawns. if you're a normal person travelling and get mugged by bandits and die, or if your house burns down with you in it, you'll respawn cause that's just what happens to people who die early or violently

It's believed to be a function of adventuring levels themselves. The assumption being that they're consumed by the act of respawning, but that may be Response Bias where adventure-types are the only ones who regularly travel enough to find their old acquaintances.

Monsters who take up class levels have been proven to respawn, but it's theorized that even ones without levels may respawn and somehow grow stronger for the experience. This is commonly referred to as the "Phase Theory" of monster mortality.

Nope! "Halfed and rounded up" means a level 1 adventurer will still respawn at level 1. They'll just reappear who-knows-where, buck-fuckin'-naked, so it's still a major inconvenience.

It would be a more frequent location for respawning, to be sure, but no more than say, a dressing room with a lot of stalls or a furniture warehouse.

Study on "respawn locations" is sparse and difficult due to their seemingly random nature and aversion to being observed, but common qualities have been noted:

  • A small space, capable of believably hiding and producing a body.
  • Easily openable. No instance of adventurers respawning and being unable to leave the bush/crate/closet they appeared in has been recorded.
  • Not actively being observed. While adventurers have been known to exit their respawn location mere feet away from people; upon interview, nobody has ever observed the actual act of a body forming inside of these spaces.
  • Generally safe. While the location is random, seemingly infinitely variable in distance from the point of death, the phenomena seems to favor places where respawning adventurers aren't in immediate danger upon doing so.

If anything, the presence of danger would discourage respawning and qualify your hedge maze for "Dungeon" status, subject to all the relevant fees and regulations imposed on such structures. Consult your local zoning laws before building such structures, or at least be prepared to repel any adventurers come to plunder your Danger Garden.

Oh wow! That's a super in-depth answer, thank you!
And I guess if the eternal entrapment hedge plan ain't gonna work, just gotta double down on carnivorous plants & demonic horticulture to expand the hedge outward.
