I only have three patrons at the moment, but even that has been a true blessing. Like, every penny makes a difference when you're financially challenged. And not just that, but having company also means a ton to me since working solo is so lonely otherwise.

I once used to think that online friendship is doomed to always be shallow or even fake, but running my Patreon has taught me otherwise. The friendships I have forged with my patrons mean way more to me than the income, although I desperately need income to make do.

The big struggle to me is promoting my page. Like, I post there a ton, but I always feel so bad about linking to the posts. The patron-only posts are hard to link to because it's zero value to anybody who doesn't want to be my patron. And the public posts, well, I guess it just feels bad because it kind of boils down to me going like, wink wink nudge nudge, I need money. Well, I really do need it, but...

Anyway, I made my latest progress report publicly available in case somebody is curious about how they look. Usually these are patron-only, but have it anyway:

My recent mini review of the Yuru Camp anime movie is also available to non-patrons. Link under the fold:

That's really cool that you've made some good friends on Patreon! I've never heard anyone talk about that aspect before ✨

I hope you're able to find a way to promote it that is both sustainable and effective. It's super, super hard to build an audience these days 😩

Hopefully sometime soon I will have a stable income that's large enough to help support you and the other queer devs whose work I admire. We need more folks like you making games!! 😀

Yeah, it's really hard to get noticed, and me being too sheepish about self-promotion certainly doesn't help my Patreon (or my games, I guess.) But I'll try to come up with something. Like, maybe link to the Patreon as an aside from semi-related social media posts or something. Feels a bit less nasty at least. πŸ˜„

When people want to support me, I'm also too tempted to be like no pressure, I'll make do somehow, so don't worry about me. Sure, Finland has a (hopefully) decent social security system, so you (hopefully) don't need to worry about me going homeless or anything, but I should still unlearn it, I guess.

Anyway, when it comes to it, make sure you can comfortably afford the $3/month. That much I will say at least. πŸ™‚

I didn't realize you were from Finland! When I was in highschool in the '90s I really wanted to visit there! But I've still never been further away from the US than Canada πŸ˜…

I'm very glad you have a social welfare system to support you!!!
