while I do agree to some extent that any press is good press and outrage engagement is a viable and reliable way to get money and attention, I think pointing at the viewcount dichotomy of "best games of the year" and "worst games of the year" videos is kinda lazy. the target, primary audience of GOTY lists are people who know a fair amount about games, and for those people, these lists are way too predictable. there are maybe 20 games in any given year that could appear on a standard, non-niche, non-indie focused list. no one needs to hear Baldur's Gate 3 fellated any longer or harder, and it's only been out for five months. we've known since Breath of the Wild's first week on this planet that any successor would handily make it onto a top 10 list when it released, barring absolute and catastrophic failure. unless they're being approached from a specific angle or by a very, very specific person, GOTY lists are mostly just boring, and I think everyone knows that by now. at least worst games lists may show you something new, or at the very least, something funny
