the left image is in NY, the right in LA, both in 1980. I wonder how many spaces like the left still exist anymore, now. I can't think of many in greater vancouver. It's absolutely brutal how the move to hostile architecture and bench removal to "deter" (read: torment) homeless people, combined with widening of street space for cars, has stripped cities of basic amenities.
