it's probably why so many of them believe they're actually in a simulation or that fansly models are actually super into them.
If I ever hear anyone going "Idiocracy is so true" I want to throw something at their face.
i am a big believer in "most of the time, people aren't making outright stupid calls. they have different information than i do, or think different things are important".
applies to everything from politics to office drama to bad driving. sometimes people are just dumb or make mistakes, but it's not everyone.
some try to make it a bit more humble, by finding one or two people they believe are cosmically ordained to be above themselves and others (plenty of reactionary "underlings" who are proud to want to be underlings to a few quasi-mythical, arbitrary Gods Among Men), but in the end its still the same unhealthy mentality with one or two extra steps.
