general advice for anti-capitalist writers: when discussing the damage dealt by capitalism on your industry, art field, hobby etc., try to avoid language like:

"nobody cares"
"nobody does anything about it"
"it's a big problem but who cares"
"nothing will ever be done about it"

trust me, i get it. it feels like nobody with the ability to make decisions has any incentive to choose competently rather than profitably, that is the system of global capitalism many of us are living in now.

but that doesn't mean people, at large, don't care. many have been beaten down, or never had a chance to learn the lies they were told to make capitalism work just kept them fighting amongst themselves.

what it does mean, is people who operate in systems with potential for change have been worn away to their absolute most mundane variant. so much of people's mental bandwidth is kept up with the trauma of staying alive in this world as to limit how much throughput can be spent on 'upending my life for the good of others'

really, the thing they've been told to the point of telling themselves is:

"what can i even do?"
"i know it sucks but management won't do anything about it"
"i wish i could help you but i will literally be fired"
"maybe if i don't explode on my boss today i'll buy some ice cream to feel something. anything."

but those feelings of wanting things to improve don't disappear, not entirely!

they're made to be on pause during work hours, times when improving things would be contrary to current profitable operation. but those people go home, stew on things, watch youtube videos or tiktoks, or read articles or talk to friends.

and if that part of them which still cares is being told "nobody cares.", it'll stay suppressed.

i try to write with the assumption that whoever is reading my work isn't as much of a raging socialist as me, but i don't spite them for that. that'd be fucking stupid. 'what do you mean you still believe in the lies you were told from birth? see, nobody cares'

if i'm not willing to assume, on some level, there is a desire to improve and change course and actually, truly create a more equitable society where capital does not dictate physical health: then what the fuck is left? just posting through it?

i'll rather a hardboiled commie roll their eyes at my optimism for people to change, than lose that chance to change the mind of someone positioned to make a difference.
