Apologies when I said things were critical as unemployment money is now gone, and none of my job leads went anywhere beyond recruiters. I was blown away and shocked at the help I got and felt like yeah, I can weather this storm, something will come up soon. It didn't despite hundreds of applications.

I have something coming up next week but given the disastrous state of the tech industry, I'm not putting my faith into my next interview being The One until I sign a W2/1099. This weekend I'm going to sign up for and prepare to do some gig stuff until I can nab a part-time thing at Target or whatever won't make my old bones creak. 17 years of breaking software and managing people to be back at the bottom.

To that end, anything anyone can help with is greatly appreciated towards the bills and keeping a roof over my family's head for a little bit longer. I know it's bad for everyone right now, so take care of yourself first. The silver lining of lots of survival trauma is I'm hard to kill.

Other ways to help:

  • If anywhere you work has a need for a QA swiss army knife that can do project management, design, documentation and organizational lead/people work, but isn't depending so much on coding things, please hit me up. I've been in QA for ages but I would love to do more of the organizational/lead work than test until my eyes bleed. I'm like all soft skills from juggling every damn role in the SDLC, I don't belong in technical roles but it's my career

  • I doubt there's any kind of remote/online work that'd pay something regularly like a gig job or part-time thing, but if so, let me know! I got a fiber connection, multiple computers, and even an old iPhone 8 that's still good for testing junk.

  • I'm waffling on selling stuff just yet since this is a sudden development and giving myself the weekend to compose myself and build/start a gameplan. However, for now I'm only going evaluate the trinkets and nerd stuff or games that might be worth someone's time. I'll make separate posts for those under different tags if it comes to that.

This economy sucks I'm too experienced to where I get ignored by the crappy jobs or otherwise little-to-no-experience work, but not enough experienced to get a job in my field cause every place has 100+ applications submitted by people who have said experience

All my existing leads but one are dead and the one is taking a while cause the guy is busy and the recruiter keeps having a time bugging him to call me. So maybe Thursday morning I'll find out if he doesn't run away screaming. I've put in what feels like a thousand applications to only rejections or nothing.

The main reason I haven't been slinging plasma is my veins are hard to find and nurses hate them and the thought of having my arm stabbed every three days multiple times trying to find veins, I'd rather do anything else

You can sort the columns remote by clicking on it, the only option is Quality Designer II which requires a lot more technical skills and programming than I'm capable of/have or to learn in a short time. Like this is a common occurrence, I've been analyst/product hybrid stuck in the QA department for my whole career but not in the way any company wants me right now, unless they want to take a hefty chance.

It was common for QA analysts to become leads and QA engineers to go the way of automation or development, but now companies want all of that in one package to save money. So I'm now too inexperienced to do the job I've been doing for decades.
