Thank you for the question!!! I tend to think of the Elephantasy games as puzzle games first, more than metroidvanias (though I think Flipside in particular has some of that DNA). Honestly, I think they have a bit more in common with Zelda games (which are a long-time hyperfixation/interest of mine), hence the item-swapping in Flipside being more Zelda-like, rather than having more static powerups like in more traditional metroidvanias. Maybe they're a different branch on the tree! Who knows!
