been running armv8 linux in a vm on my M1 for working on emulation, and one thing that occurs somewhat rarely is i start compiling, it gets a little bit of the way, and then the entire vm starts being verrry slow. like. slow enough that you can't reasonably open any other applications.

this is super annoying because it means i usually need to kill the vm and restart it. It takes like less than 5 seconds, but still!

however i've discovered the Degauss Tab Method™ and i have no idea why it works, but it consistently makes the vm stop being slow.

what i do is have my terminal up and open one tab for doing all the stuff i need to do (compiling, configuring, whatever), and one other terminal tab to just sit there and look pretty until it's needed.

when the vm starts being very slow from compiling, i just mash over to the blank terminal tab and it Just Works... Somehow, in a scarily consistent manner. everything starts running normally again. literally every other method of trying to avoid it (closing the terminal/cancelling the current running process in the terminal) does not work and usually locks the vm up or grinds it even further to a halt

i have no idea why it works and i understand computers even less every day
