gen z moment of me bur since ppl were talking abt it earlier re: Discord news; what is a good way to host files?
ive never used discord as a file hosting thing, and ik abt having harddrives and physical copies and backups which i do, but im not rly sure how to host files for online especially since options seem to get smaller and smaller every year. i do use dropbox for freelance work ofc, but if other people have other ways they host particular kinds of files id love to learn how to be better at it!
my general recommendation for hosting files for online hotlinking/embedding is NearlyFreeSpeech.NET1. You can set up a static website with them for around $6/year, and then use a file transfer tool like WinSCP or FileZilla (or any other tool that supports SFTP2) to upload whatever kinds of files you want. If you upload files into the default folder, you can just link to them like https://eggbug.nfshost.com/electric-arc.png, and use that link wherever you want. NearlyFreeSpeech.NET's service is very bare-bones and low-frills, but it's really cheap, and if all you want to do is upload files to link to/embed online, you don't need to get into any complicated tech stuff, beyond learning how to use a file transfer program.
(kudos to @ticky for sharing this recommendation a while back)

don't worry, they're not freezepeach assholes

Secure File Transfer Protocol, it's what it says on the tin
I personally use NearlyFreeSpeech.NET for our indie game's website and it's cost me about $20 per... (checks watch) every two or three years.
I've been hosting stuff for ages. I quit iPage, HostGator, and A Small Orange all because of their out of control hosting costs and customer service that had deteriorated over time. I've been using NearlyFreeSpeech.NET for close to ten years and not only has it been easy to use, it's been consistently affordable.
