Legit worried about everything.

I'm a Vtuber. I'm a furry. I like games, and just to be clear, this page is now 18+ because I have more than a few NSFW interests.

I'm starting to lose faith in Pillowfort. There's like maybe 3 people posting on it as far as I know, and this place is still way too niche to see all the awesome stuff it needs to succeed. What really stinks is that all the mainstream places are the literal worst.

Twitter is full of Nazis, as is Facebook.

Instagram is boring unless you're a brand already.

Tiktok has like 1 worthwhile account on the whole damn thing, and I can find it on Youtube.

Mastodon is too cluttered and complicated to be anything but a minor distraction, and is already filling with Nazis.

Tumblr hasn't shaken off the porn ban reputation yet despite the porn-bot accounts.

Like, you know it's a problem when the best site to meet people and have meaningful conversations online right now is friggin' FurAffinity. Like, how insane is that?

So now what? Must we accept that a small apparently unreportable cabal of monsters runs the internet? Are we just supposed to stop and hope something new comes up? Where is the action? Where is the love? Where is the peace?

I cross post my blogs here and PF, but I agree that PF wasn't able to capitalize on the Elon Exodus back in November and keep people around. And I doubt either of these platforms can steal people away from the deeply entrenched socials with deep pockets.

Options? None really. Mastodon maybe but it's the same as Twitter now. No hot takes means don't bother.

I don't know what it is, but I just find that PF has a somewhat unintuitive design. Like... it seems pretty functional, it's great for artists to host their artwork, one of the best for Comic Uploads, but for some reason I find it really inconvenient to use compared to Itaku, CoHost, and even Tumblr.

I think the current solution to the problem is to make our own site funded by donations, but that takes a lot of work, planning, bandwidth, and even then it's unlikely to take off unless a LOT of people also have the same idea. The closest I can think of is making a Mastodon Instance that's NOT Vanilla Mastodon (Prime example being Counter-Social), but even then not everyone's going to use it BC the site's just hard to navigate. And as you mentioned, it's kinda filling up with Nazis, and the only way to stop them on Mastodon is by direct Moderator Intervention (no bots to auto-ban Nazis).

This is the kind of problem that makes me hate Late-Stage Capitalism even more; we have no respite from the bullshit because said BS just hikes up traffic (something the Corporations want more of). While I was able to post my ideas, I don't think I can reliably come up with a PRACTICAL solution and I'm sure many others have trouble with that as well.
