I gave out one final suggestion on Twitter that people should join Cohost. I think I'm basically done with Twitter at this point.

Any time I use it I just get depressed lol I read too much hatred and bullshit. It's a nazi bar, now.

It's been a hard push trying to get people to join this site, and I know it's hard to join a new site! But god, I REALLY wish people would actually give Cohost a chance rather than stick to Twitter, or worse, joining Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg's garbage leftovers.

Cohost is great! It's queer, chill, currently much more stable than all those other ones, and MUCH healthier. It doesn't have those endorphin rushes when you get Numbers, and the visibility for new accounts is maybe a little low, but it's just.... healthier lmfao. It's hard to ween off of Twitter's bullshit, but Cohost is the best option for that, IMO.

I feel bad for being such a fucking Cohost Simp but I really do like it here :P. I hope any of y'all following from Twitter like it here, too.

in reply to @Lizstar's post:

People flocking to BlueSky and Threads and stuff has Jokerfied me. Cohost is a little less all encompassing than Twitter so I feel like I spend less time here, but I guess that's good because honestly any moment not spent on social media probably can be spent better Literally Anywhere. People just love Numbers Getting Bigger I guess (they should just play cookie clicker or something smh)

Honestly it's just been depressing for me. People who have insulted and mocked Twitter for a decade, and are like "God I wish I didn't have to use this website, I'm hopelessly addicted to it" have a chance as it's dying to stop, or do something healthier, and then go to the alternatives that are JUST AS BAD. Bluesky is literally just trying to be Twitter Before Elon (but also subtly worse), the site they've insulted for years. But WHOO it's here to SAVE US.

Not everyone is like this of course. But I've seen it a lot.

For me, the other sites aren't so much something I have an abiding want for, and more casting a wide net in the aftermath of the social media scattering. There are a lot of friends that aren't on here, so even though I like it here - a lot! - I have to diversify if I want to maintain connections. That's all I used Deceased Bird Site for anyway.

I don't think cohost was ever going to have a huge takeoff and replace twitter, if for no other reason than it doesn't have the staff and money to support that. the best we can reasonable hope for is survival and sustainable growth, which i think it's beginning to achieve.

I've got a BS account, but I limit how much I interact with it because unless I have my feed set to just FFXIV stuff I find that it's a stressful mess. Real life is enough of a stressful mess without having a website randomly adding to it.

I love it here. It's cozy, there's posts to read, art to see, and I've not had people take things I say wildly out of context.

A common refrain I hear from other friends is that this place is more like Tumblr rather than Twitter and that while Cohost may be a nice site (it sure is!), it doesn't fit the same purpose as Twitter. Bluesky seems to be the one most like Twitter but I still haven't gotten onto there yet because the whole social media landscape is fracturing and no one's really settled onto a solid platform yet.

I think this place is great, and especially a good place for artists too. I just hope it stays funded and healthy going forward.

I find cohost to be rather comfy. Twitter is now just that thing I scroll through to look at bunny and cat photos. Hell, half of my feed is bunny and cat photos, and I’ve never been more content.
I come here when I want to have a conversation or see people with working brains.
I go to the other place for cute bnuuy and cat.

It sucks how few of the people who were on the Cohost hypetrain actually managed to sit through the activation queue and post even once. It's a good site! And thanks for posting so much. I think 90% of my timeline here is you lol

I want a twitter, which is to say I want the ability to be passively aware of what the communities I am involved with are doing in a way that tumblr-likes (tumblr, livejournal, cohost) have never enabled, even when RSS was a thing, IMs never do because I'm never in group chats (ICQ, AIM, Facebook messager), and discord-likes (irc, discord), don't facilitate well at all. But I've been on tumblr for a long time and cohost is a very welcome new tumblr-like.

I think it's mostly cuz it's not quite Twitter, it's a weird mix of Twitter and Tumblr, and it doesn't satisfy everyone. I do much prefer Cohost over either, because I feel like I have more control over what I want to look at, and it avoids tactics focused around addiction or exploiting impulsive doomscrolling

just recently joined cohost but already liking it a lot more for sure. ive never been really able to get into social media bc of how depressing it always was but here is the only social media where that doesnt really happen for me.

posting on Elon's Twitter was already low-key embarrassing but like hell i am going to post on Elon's X. i've been awfully tempted to just throw open the floodgates and stuff a tweet full of every word that is known to attract bots and techbros and bluechecks and Nazis (but i repeat myself~) and force myself to nuke my account for my own safety

(also what the fuck are you gonna call tweets now, Elon? "epic bacons"?? colossal dipshit)
