I love aquariums, a lot. I always wanted to be a marine biologist. I havent been to one in a while tho, since like mid 2019 honestly. So my BF brought me to the NYC Aquarium, first time I've been!
This place felt... a little sad, at points. Lots of pushing about climate change and plastic and "please stop killing the animals", meanwhile a lot of exhibits feel a little dirty, or empty (like 3 were empty save for maybe a single animal), or broken. There were lots of little doodads that just didnt work. That's normal at an aquarium, but here everything together felt pronounced towards a feeling of not much funding.
It also felt very aimed for kids. Which like duh. Kids are one of the biggest demographics for an aquarium. But this felt kiddy at points. I felt so out of place, near some exhibits lol as a weird adult. I never feel that way at any other aquarium, especially my favorites like Mote Marine or Atlanta.
Animals were still animals tho, and there were lots of cuties, including a nice sealion show with some chill goofy sealions.
