I've now been to both within a week, and can answer this
The Atlanta Aquarium is a lot better lol. It just feel like they get more funding, the NY Aquarium had a lot of dirty exhibits and empty ones, while the Atlanta Aquarium had HUGE exhibits and so many varied ones!
Also Atlanta had a ray touch tank. NY didnt have that so, Atlanta wins automatically
As someone who travels specifically to see aquariums (like I plan the entire trip around the aquarium), the Georgia Aquarium is the best I've ever seen. The only other one that has come close is the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan in Japan.
