Gay Murr Girl

Liz, Goblin, Part-Time Shark, VTuber, retired speedrunner, author, GDQ staff, Sega fan, "Yuri Sommelier", Walking Encyclopedia of All Things Useless, Twitch partner, general menace. Says "Murr" a lot. This is not a place of honor, views my own, etc. Avatar art by me.

I've woken up the night after finishing the Utena anime, and my take away is that one meme where a bunch of metaphors are flying over my head and I look at Utena and go "Wow, good music" and "Wow, pulling swords out of other women is really cool and kinda hot"

Maybe eventually I will look up.

It really is a lot to parse, especially since it feels like a ton of it is very backloaded. I do think the movie is worth checking out for sure, btw! I don't think it will necessarily clear up any of the metaphor but it is rad and beautiful as heck

Yeah we'll watch it next week. I hear it's way more gay, which I know I will enjoy.

Look, I like wistful longing looks and "pure yuri" as much as the next woman but I also really like things that are just flat out gay, give me some flat out gay.

I'm really conflicted about looking up analysis of penguindrum and utena
but for now I kinda decided I... didnt want to ?
Like I kinda wanna keep the look and emotions I projected as they are. Maybe I'll reconsider in a few year after having watch those multiple times

personally my best/worst utena realisation moment was when I figured out that the end of the Scott Pilgrim movie is just utena. he literally pulls a sword out of himself!! and then he dies fighting with the power of love and can't save ramona, but comes back to fight with the power of self respect. anyway my point is I know bryan lee o'malley is enough of a nerd to have watched utena
