I was going to wait until closer to the end of In the Shadows of Kryckwood to talk about this, and I probably still will bring it up again then, but I feel like talking about it now. I have a bunch more planned for the series, including both small ideas to scatter around and full episodes/arcs with varying degrees of being fleshed out in my notes. But the thing is, those arcs can, to some degree, be shuffled around a bit. In fact a few already have- there was originally going to be one or two arcs between Crimson Isles and Kryckwood! Generally speaking, I try to leave wiggle room for doing such things, based on various factors. But of course, there are some caveats and requirements.
I have several major named episodes/arcs in mind right now, which can be shuffled around to some degree:
-
The Trials of Devashan: without giving away the details, this one may end up being the longest episode, I think. I have lots of fun things to involve in it, including mysticism and magic, action, cozy sweet moments, and lots of upbeat, light-hearted scenes as well. Not to mention a lot of opportunity for world-building, AND character growth- especially for Lykou.
-
Deep Dark Wonders: can't say much about this one without giving things away, but lets just say it'll be a very different kind of environment for the boys to explore, and some rather interesting and fun characters for them to meet. This one can be slipped in just about anywhere, so I may or may not hold off until after a certain "big moment".
-
Shifting Sands of Madness: the title kind of gives a massive spoilery clue about where this one takes place, but in any case it should just be a short, fun one. I'd like it to take place right before Devashan for a fun little "out of the frying pan, into the ice box" type shenanigan, but that's not set in stone.
-
The Wound Awakens/Hello, You Fool: The reason for multiple titles is that this will actually involve a series of smaller adventures in several locations, with an ongoing subplot going on in the background. And it'll either conclude with, or lead into a small episode containing The Big Moment. This is the clencher that I keep debating about. On the one hand, there are things I'd like to have happen before this, but on the other, I can only stretch the "When are these two gonna kiss/fuck already?!" sense so much!
-
Abjekal: Yeah, this is technically the first time you've seen this word, although it was very, VERY briefly hinted at in passing back in Quality Time. (Hint, campfire stories!) It was originally going to be a part of the "spooky" arc alongside Kryckwood and one other, but obviously now I've decided to break the three up and spread them out. (The third, as yet unnamed, will still only be about a single chapter, either standalone or part of another episode.)
....other than that, I have a number of other ideas that'll end up as either episodes or small bits of episodes, but no titles or solid bindings holding them together yet. I'm actually thinking about making another short, light arc after Kryckwood to give the boys some real time to recover from all the shit they've been through recently. There'll be some adventure and conflict, of course (can't have a story without it really), but it'll be a bit milder and more light-hearted. Right off the bat it'll involve a hopefully amusing shenanigan that'll result from the end of this Kryckwood arc.
Also, though, before that, I'll be doing another quick check-in with Naira. Oh and yes, I do still plan to do that Ep 5 scene extension. I've already got it partially written in fact. But I'm not hurrying because the reaction to the whole idea means it'll probably end up being non-canon anyway, for my own silly indulgence. Maybe a "what if" scenario, if you will. :P
