Tough question. I could say as far back as, like, the late 00s as far as when i had any sort of connection to furry stuff, but I don't think I necessarily entered any furry spaces.
I dug through my DeviantArt archives and I think 2012 is probably my best guess for when I properly entered any furry space, it's when my activity really ramped up there in terms of drawing funny animals and I made what I think is my first actual fursona.
The early 10s seem to be a time when a lot of folks first started discovering or engaging with the fandom online, hehe. Personally, I first discovered the fandom online way back around '01, but only lurked until '02 or '03. (Yeahhhh I'm a 'greymuzzle' now I guess. Oof. xD) I think it's pretty normal to sort of "feel things out" before actively participating them online in some way, heh. Though I guess it depends on when and how you encounter it.
