For testing non-interactive commands there are things like bats, but for things that require interactivity the common recommendation is expect. In my experience expect is pretty brittle. Let’s say you’ve already cut down the number of things you’re trying to test interactively in the first place, but you’re left with a chunk of functionality that still does need to be tested. What is standard practice in this kind of situation?
