This'll be a short (and kinda messy) post that list some facts about what I guess technically fits as it's an OC *(Original Country(. Seedbearer is the country that Hazel Town Story / Journal primarily takes place in. It sits between the US and Nova Brittania.

[NOTE: I am not a political scientist or historian. I probably might phrase some things off. This isn't like a lot of stuff set in stone, but just concepts I had imagined for the place]

  • The technical full name is The Territory Under The Guardianship Of The Council Of Seedbearer Nations
  • The basic history of the country is that it was the result of the teachings of a group of religious leaders in around 1550 who wrote what could be considered the first code of law from the Seedbearer Constitution would be crafted from. This council was able to spread its word through alliances and persuasion (read: conquest). The only other major powers that had not consolidated with them on the continent were the Empire of Sun's Bounty (they were seen as equal allies) and the nations of Riverheart (was not logistically feasible to cross the mountains)
  • By the time Europeans were accompanied by Prosperitans to look for places to colonize around 200 years later, they were of equal power to the collected forces of Britian and France. It was voted that they were not to intervene with the colonization of Riverheart at first. When it was realized the atrocities that were brought upon the native peoples of Riverheart, it was declared that no land west of the mountains was to be claimed by the European forces which then was extended to the US
    • When the US decided to Manifest Destiny to the South of the country, it caused a push to spread westward to claim land and prevent the US for closing them off, this race eventually caused the current claims of territory.
  • The political system employed in Seedbearer could be considered communist but is a style not influenced by Marx or any other Capital C Communist thinkers
    • Seedbearer culture does not acknowledge the concept of personal ownership not in the sense that all goods are public, but in the sense that no one owns anything and that at best, things are considered in one's guardianship. While in about 90% of cases this can be legally equivalent to ownership, it does imply that if one is not using something and hoarding it, they may have it taken away. There are also something things that people are forbidden from taking guardianship of like land or people.
    • Depending upon classification, some goods are legally required to be solely distributed by The Council, some have distribution heavily overseen by The Council, and some are open to market forces The following is some examples
      • Only the Council has control of: Food, Housing, Medical Care and Goods, Education, Standard "Needs"
      • Heavily Overseen: Prepared Food, Firearms, Clothing
    • One of the major tenets of the original Seedbearers is that stories and information should be as freely available as possible. This has led to the creation of myriads of libraries that host not just books, but any form of media that can distribute information or can be an artistic media. In modern times, this includes not just libraries of movies, music, and TV shows, but there is a debate about whether software and games should be added.
  • Until the 1940s, there was a standing military that was run by The Council that was sent to help with wars fought by allies and policing was done by locally run police forces. After a number of wars that went terribly and mass corruption and inefficiency of police forces that brought about mass civil unrest, it was decided to disband the standing army and for the Council to take control of policing and how it should be done. A massive rework of the departments of The Council was also done. The Council's activities would be divided into multiple departments including...
    • Department of Personal Assistance and Safety (D-PAS) - The federal department designed to replace police forces across the country. Constables of this department act as paramedics, guides, and mediators for disturbances. It was decided that in order to make sure that could not use their authority improperly they do not have any authority to arrest based on any criminal behavior, they do however have the authority to detain persons for public safety temporarily but this is not of note criminally.
      • Department of Wildlife Assistance and Safety (D-WAS) - It's D-PAS, but for wildlife.
    • Department of Civil and Criminal Investigation - This department consists primarily of detectives who do investigations of incidents involving criminal activity or incidents involving civil liability. They do not have any authority to arrest unless it is granted by the Department of Judicial Interpretation and Application.
    • Department of Judicial Interpretation and Application (D-JIA) - The judicial arm of The Council. They are responsible for handling cases of violation of criminal or civil law.
      • Department of Judicial Adminstration and Modification (D-JAM) - The legislative arm of The Council. Under the arm of the D-JIA, these people are responsible for crafting new laws based on societal feedback. Employment in this Department requires prior employment in D-JIA
    • Department of Public Health (D-PH) - Healthcare is such a tenet of The Council that it is actually part of The Council. Doctors and Animancers are held to the same standards as public officials.
    • The HomeGuard - While the standing army was disbanded, it was decided that a defense force was needed due to tensions with neighbors. Members of any department of The Council can enroll in The HomeGuard. The HomeGuard also acts as Internal Affairs for any sort of corruption within the ranks of The Council. The main forces consist of members of D-PAS, D-WAS, and the D-CCI.
