With there being a whole hubbub about the pros and cons of various social media, I was thinking of whether or not I should make a post regarding my likes and dislikes of the various sites I use or why I don’t use others. Instead of that, I decided that I’m going to just give a quick jotting down of notes of what I think my ideal social media site would be. This has been given maybe 30 minutes to an hour worth of thought so there are probably aspects I’d be missing.

  • The site would be focused on various tabs. Thinking like the kind of thing like a binder with tabs where you focus only on the type of content of the tab.
  • There is one input and based on the characteristics of the input, it would only be allowed to be classified as good for certain tabs.
  • The tabs I’m thinking of are as follows
    • Short Thoughts - No more than 300 characters with maybe 1 picture associated with it.
    • Long Thoughts - Over 250 characters. Meant for essays and other longer thoughts
    • Media - Links or Images/Video. For posts focused on what’s being shared
    • Personal Works - Links to works done. Users would self-flag these posts. Must contain uploaded media or a link.
    • Live Events - Short Thoughts style posts that would promote an event that would occur during a specific time. When the event would be happening, a part of the interface that would be seen when looking at any tab would showcase live events.
    • Shares - The equivalent of RT, share, or whatever you want to call it. These go on their own tab.
      • When multiple people you follow share the same post, put in a system so it simply gets refreshed with a note of who on your followers shared it
    • Continuations - The equivalent of quote tweets or quote reports. They would get put on their own tab that would combine continuations from any of the other tabs
  • Implement a tagging system, but there would be a set dictionary of tags. Users can send feedback for the addition of more tags.
  • Engagement numbers are off by default. Ability to completely hide certain classes of notifications.
  • Markdown supported
  • Content warning system similar to cohost. Maybe a post rating system on a movie scale so that you can select quickly to turn off certain types of posts based on where you are looking at.
  • Interface on mobile would have the feed for your current tab be scrolled up and down for the current feed and swiping left or right would let you go to the next tab. Mouse-friendly interface for desktop with maybe the number row being about selecting tabs
