Kayde seems a bit concerned about this, but Kayde is acting pretty nonchalant. it's probably fine, i'm sure Kayde will be able to explain the situation to Kayde eventually, and then Kayde will get used to it.

...confused yet? read below for some amount of explanation!

So, as discussed in my post about Kayde and what happens to them when in weird and indefinite TF scenarios, the universe attempts to maintain the existence of one - and only one - Kayde. However, it's isn't immune from edge cases causing... hiccups. As hinted to in that same post, balloon dog Kayde is an instance of a hiccup like this occurring (and the only instance to date).

In this case, Kayde did turn themself into this balloon dog creature, and found themself stuck that way. As such, the universe initiated the process of creating a new, standard Kayde and restoring Kayde's memories, soul, etc to it. So far, so good. However, when the process that would have set the old Kayde towards being a plain ol balloon dog started, it didn't quite work. Neither Kaydes really understand exactly why, but the old Kayde was predominantly unaffected by the process and instead retained all of their memories, though their personality was mildly adjusted to fit their form.

This caused... confusion, primarily. There should not be two Kaydes - by all past observations, it isn't possible. The universe doesn't seem to be acting on this though, which they've both taken as a sign that perhaps the balloon dog Kayde has been shifted just enough to not register as Kayde in the universe's eyes. As such, even though balloon dog Kayde still thinks of itself as Kayde, it has conceded to going by just Kay or K to reduce confusion.

...Didn't make this initial conversation any less jarring to Kayde, though. Both of them.

After sorting things out and settling into this new situation, the two now have a fairly casual relationship, with Kay mostly just hanging around Kayde. Being a balloon animal, Kay doesn't really have much in the way of needs, so it's pretty self sufficient. For the most part, Kay is like one of those classic 'idle companion characters' you'll get in certain types of games. Sometimes it'll point out a mistake Kayde made in preparing a spell, but more often it just sits back and watches Kayde mess things up and laughs at them.

An aside, Kay doesn't have any real regrets or long-term disappointments about this happening to it. Whether that's due to its own choices and feelings, or if the universe gently nudged it in that direction, it doesn't care much.
