the whole "fandom" concept is, to me, entirely abhorrent
Because it codifies ways you must adhere to to enjoy something.
I think the strength furry has is that instead of centralized around intellectual property or products
it is about appreciation of other members and participants.
Which does lead to people getting fans of their own but it is generally an organically driven thing
Subculture feels restrictive for it as well but it is more than just "fandom"
The furry fandom is very different from a traditional fandom because it's not centered around one show or product line or any such thing. It's more like "I represent myself as an animal on the internet and hang out with other people that do".

and that is also why I find those "we must make furry mainstream" "furry should be less sexual, less queer, more palatable" types so fucking weird
They want it to center around a particular aesthetic type, a particular representation.
Which, no, thank you, no.
