Finding My Comfy Place

I have thoughts to share, and...perhaps an audience? I'm a hopeful kinda guy. Working on artistic pursuits simultaneously more and less than I should.

Just as a reminder, Nintendo and every other major computer game publisher don't give a hoot as to whether or not you dumped your own ROMs or not; they will be offended regardless. There is also no law that formally states that one method for obtaining ROMs is more valid than another; it's all been established through case precedent that is liable to change at any time.

I believe that it ethically doesn't matter whatsoever whether or not one dumps a game themself or through downloading a ROM online (in the sense that I believe that either scenario is harmless in the vast majority of cases), but there is really no basis for those who dump their disks/cartridges to think they're appreciated any more by companies than those who download the ROMs. If they could, Nintendo, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, etc., would shut down all forms of emulation in a heartbeat - and a lot of that has to do with how they believe that their games need to be played in the ways that they prescribe. Doesn't matter if you already paid money for the product being emulated.
