Finding My Comfy Place

I have thoughts to share, and...perhaps an audience? I'm a hopeful kinda guy. Working on artistic pursuits simultaneously more and less than I should.

Besides how it is a virtual casino and I refuse to gamble, I cannot abide the anti-cheat that it comes packaged with. I actually once almost caved and downloaded the installer. But there was something niggling at the back of my mind telling me that I should do more research before brazenly installing the game...and whaddaya know! Turns out that Genshin Impact's anti-cheat demands kernel-level access, making it virtually indistinguishable from malware! I mean, that's the entry fee for some anime waifu game? Yeah, hard pass.

What the hell is it with the entitlement that some developers and publishers (the latter, more often than not) feel? That keeping their game pristine and orderly is worth compromising my system's security? They don't even warn you of this on the website, nor do they have an easily accessible privacy policy.

just so you know, i don't think anyone has been banned through the anti-cheat. linux players have been disabling anti-cheat for years so that the game launches on WINE.

and at some point they made the anti-cheat do literally nothing, saving linux users the hassle of disabling it, but also meaning you were being forced to install a kernel-level anti-cheat that does nothing. but i guess the good news is that they don't care if you disable it.
