signed myself up for a local fighting game tournament a couple weeks back. the actual event is happening next weekend so i've spent most of my time recently trying to get good beforehand. the games i'll be playing are sf6 and ggstrive.
unfortunately when i signed up i hadn't touched ggstrive in a couple months lol
the games are being played on ps5 and we're meant to bring our own controllers. the only thing i own that works with a ps5 is my snackbox. trying to relearn gg in short time is one thing but the game just feels bad on the snackbox. it's likely just me not being used to it but i cannot get a button configuration that feels natural. i might have to drop out of the gg bracket because of it.
least i feel confident in my marisa i suppose.
forgot to say I did end up going to this and participating in both games. got my ass handed to me exactly like I expected to lol.
but it was fun! first time going to a local and people were pretty friendly. a couple people I got matched up with were apparently some of the best in the state. one guy who I ran a few casual sets with kicked my ass 14 times in a row, then went on to come second, which was humbling but also took the sting outta losing.
I even managed to get a win during the street fighter pools. got to experience the thrill of hearing the guy next to me mashing the wakeup super and knowing to counter it, got to pretend my brain was huge lol.
I hope I can attend one of these again. it seems like they run casuals pretty often on Friday evenings but work tends to kill my wrists because I type a lot and playing something with demanding inputs like fighting games after that isn't super feasible.
(might end up quitting my job soon tho so who knows maybe I'll become a real fgc man after that)
