As I reread Citrus (At volume 3 when I wrote this) I’ve been checking out reviews for each volume on places like goodreads. Citrus is a pretty controversial manga, undeservingly so imo - so my content brain just wants to read that perspective as I go on - I want to see if it’s prolific haters like… have a point or not. Lemme tell you, it’s absolutely WILD how most people leaving negative reviews seem to just be incapable of understanding what’s going on in the text, what it’s saying and means. It’s wild how many people dismiss it as ‘porn’… when heck no it’s a ridiculous melodrama. They kiss a few times? Kisses ain’t porn kids! It’s wild how many people are like “they don’t drive the plot forward they just add new characters into the love triangle that’s not plot development” and idk what to tell you my guy, this this is not how a love triangle works - these two heroines are in a fricking love line. The characters added to this non-triangle-triangle are there for a specific reason, to drive a specific realisation, reactions and growth from Yuzu and Mei. They clear up their thoughts and mash them closer together- it’s developing Yuzu and Mei characters and drives their plot! Yuzu and Mei at the end of volume 1 are not the same as Yuzu and Mei at the end of volume 3. Mei in chapter 1 is inscrutable and weird. If you don’t feel some sympathy for her by the end of volume 3 your probs dead inside . It’s okay not to like citrus, it’s okay to be put off by the uncomfortable abusive themes - all these girls are messed up! That’s okay! But like, at least try and engage with the material? Idk.

Sleepy-girl representation is important
