I want to share this poem that someone submitted to be read on Desert Bus For Hope, it's been on my mind a lot since I heard it and I want to give others a chance to see it as well
Transcription since I'm not sure the Alt text will carry over nicely
Psychrolutes marcidus is a deep sea fish of the family Psychrolutidae when we pulled it out of the water, we called it a blobfish because its face resembled a blobby man more than it did a fishlater we learned that the only reason
the blobfish looked like that is because
we had taken it from its safe environment
and irreparably harmed it in the doing
it was depressurised and distorted
and we called it ugly
even though we were the ones who made it that way
what environment were you dragged from
that you were deemed ugly by your captors?
what did they call you to make you think
that you are so worthless up here?
it is not in the blobfish's nature to exist in this kind of pressure
it does not deserve to exist around these people
who do not understand it
it is not of our world
we should not force it to endure us
you do not deserve the way you are treated
you are not of their world
you can return to your atmosphere
reset your pressure
and feel free to swim around
without being called ugly
by people who couldn't accept the idea
that you could thrive
and what is a blobfish if it is not ugly?
and what are you if you are not broken?
return, my friend, to the deep blue sea
the whole world is waiting for you
