So now that the expansion has been out around 2 weeks, I thought I might jot down some early thoughts of mine regarding it. I'll keep it as spoiler free as possible, but know that there may be minor things below the break.

Wizard's Vault

Much less bad than I was expecting, but I do find it already forming the kind of toxic relationship any game with a battle pass esque system does. I'm trying to limit my exposure to these types of things, as I'm very vulnerable to the psychology they exploit, but for now it's... Fine. Some decent rewards in there so far. We'll have to see how it evolves after the first quarterly.

Story

I enjoyed it! I saw some complaints it was short, but it took me about 3 days to work through it at the pace I normally do. Some fun bits, I like the new characters. Zojja is also a delight to see return. It had some pacing issues but frankly so does every MMO story haha.

Relics

I find the new relic system fine? I saw all this doom and gloom about them from people mad about their legendary runes etc etc but it seems like that didn't end up panning out much. There's some fun ones in there, and I like that you have to earn them first before you can buy them. Good incentive to do new content.

Rifts

The new bounty system is... A mixed bag for me. We'll see how it evolves but it does feel a bit repetitive right now. I do appreciate that you can trigger them on command, and I hear they're good gold/he so maybe I should do them more.

Masteries

New skyscale toys are very fun! I hope they expand further with the final mastery line being added in the quarterlies. The fireball is fun and I love the new mobility updrafts grant.

What about everyone else? Anyone that's played it agree? Disagree?

Wizard's vault is a great incentive to actually play the game! I barely cared about dailies before. Though, the fact that it will select dailies for expansions you have bought means that for newer players, they won't be able to do some dailies/weeklies unless they rush/spoil story. I believe that is a major flaw.

I do think that the story was a bit short. Rift hunting felt like padding big time, and it felt like 3/4 of the story were spent on the first map, then the remaining time on the second map. Ending caught me by surprise because I was expecting the story to show me more places from the second map first.

Yea I've heard some complaints along those lines from some people who own but haven't completed certain expansions. It's good that it takes into consideration what you own but I feel it should also take into account what you've completed on your account before. I saw they're planning on adding an additional daily option to the selection in a coming patch. So instead of having to complete all of the ones you're given you have to do 3 out of the 4 for the chest. I hope that can help alleviate it, but... Some of these daily rotations have been mean. Spirit Vestibule as a daily?? Like jeez haha. I'm waiting for Chalice to end up in the rotation somewhere lol.

I'm mostly fine with the Wizard's Vault stuff, it's just... I worry about the rotating inventory and things getting more expensive in the legacy section, etc. I'm really trying to avoid games that employ FOMO/Battlepasses/Seasonal Content and this is close enough that it's triggering the same psychological issues I have with them. It's by far one of the friendliest ones I've seen but... It's mostly a me issue I guess.

I agree, yea the rift hunting padding was sort of the pacing issues I alluded to. I get that they want people to engage with that system but it felt strange for the pacing of the story overall. Overall I liked it but it remains to be seen how this new quarterly update method of doing things pans out.
